The Baihetan Hydropower Station is equipped with 16 domestically developed, single-unit 1 million kilowatt hydroelectric generating sets, the largest of their kind in the world, with a total installed capacity of 16 million kilowatts. It ranks as China’s second-largest hydropower station, after the Three Gorges Dam, and the second-largest hydropower station in the world. It can meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 75 million people and can replace about 19.68 million tons of standard coal, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 52 million tons.
